Cherry Blossoms – A Close Up

Cherry Blossoms - A Close Up

Cherry Blossoms are a DC favorite.

In 1912, the people of Japan sent, as a token of their friendship, 3,020 cherry trees to the USA. The First Lady Taft and the Viscountess Chinda (the Japanese Ambassador’s wife), planted the first two trees on the Tidal Basin’s northern bank. Those two trees are still standing near the John Paul Jones statue at the south end of 17th Street. Here’s more on these historical trees.

This cherry blossom tree is in our front yard. The picture has not been tweaked or edited or cropped.
