Alexander is 10

Alexander celebrates his 10th birthday today. Before his 10th birthday, he got his black belt in Tae kwon do. He also loves playing soccer and badminton. He likes Science and is pretty good in Math but he *HATES* Writing.

He loves cars and so far, wants a career in the auto industry. His dream job right now would be test driving fast cars . He would love to visit Italy because they build Ferrari there. He loves that his dad bought a Corvette and is always vying for the spot in the passenger seat when dad is driving it.

Today is the first day of school for my boys. I have a fifth grader, a second grader and a first grader. My youngest is really missing them and keeps asking when they’ll be home!

Another Birthday Cake

Reading Tracy’s post on the cake her daughter made gave me the idea for this birthday cake for the five year old. Being boy’s, rockets, airplanes, cars and such are big hits with them and instead of trying to make a car cake, I thought this would be easier. Seeing this is my first attempt ever at this, it’s not very good but kids are easy to please and seldom see the faults we do… so, the cake was a hit.

My five year old is not a big fan of chocolate except as candy so the cake was a confetti cake with cream cheese icing in the middle and under the marshmallow fondant icing on top.

The car was made from marshmallow fondant and painted using food color.

and my little guy is FIVE today! He is my charmer. Wherever we go, people are always gravitating towards him telling us how cute he is and how sweetly he smiles. He loves people and is the first to hug even a stranger. He is also a wonderful helper much more eager than his older brothers to pitch in with tasks around the house. He is also quick to anger and finds it difficult to control it but he is so contrite after wards that it is difficult to stay angry with him! When it comes to picking up new things, he is very quick, even quicker than my oldest. He is reading level one books and picked up putting simple words together and writing really quickly. That said, he is also quick to pick up bad things fast! You have to be real careful what you say around him!

If you read the blog, then you probably know that Alexander’s birthday was on the last day of August. His two requests for his cake were ice cream and chocolate. So, I made him a chocolate cake with layers of homemade vanilla ice cream and covered it all in an easy chocolate glaze. Here are pictures of the cake. Primitive but tasty!

First Day of School

Today is the first day of school here. My older two left at 7 am and my third left at 11 am. It’s hard to believe I only have on child at home now. My oldest is in 4th grade, my second in 1st grade and my third in kindergarten. They will be home soon. The house is so quiet after the noisiness of summer…

My kindergartener woke up this morning and suddenly told me he didn’t want to go to school. It’s seems he had a dream that he got all Fs in school. I had to reassure him that he didn’t have to worry about grades just yet. He’s not been to preschool but he does know to read, write and do basic math so he should be fine in school! It’ll just be a while for him to get used to the schedule and routine of school and classroom. I know he will probably doze off in the bus on the way home but his older brother are with him, so I am not really worried.

The oldest has mixed feelings, I think. He knows that fourth grade means a lot of work especially since he will have make up work for one day of school, which he will miss when he goes to the G&T program. With Taekwondo, chess classes and keyboard practice added to the mix, he’s not going to have time for his precious Playstation games until the weekends.

The second little fellow is in the best little place I think. He’s in first grade where there’s not too much pressure. He’s got a good teacher and he’s going to have fun before things get serious as they do in second grade. He does have the same extra curricular activities as the older boy but he’s just starting out in all of them… so again not a whole lot is expected of him except to have fun at them

Nine Years Old Today!

Nine years ago today, I had a baby boy at 12:29 pm exactly. He was our first child and arrived exactly a week later than his due date, after more than 24 hours of labor. Today he is an intelligent, energetic boy who is always eager to learn new things, always ready for the next race, always eager to be challenged. He loves sports and plays soccer, badminton, practices taekwondo (he’s one belt away from black) and also likes to play chess. He’s also learning the keyboard and to read music. He will be starting the 4th grade next week and has been accepted in the county Gifted and Talented program for this year. His favorite subject is Science and he loves to do experiments.

I took some pictures of him this morning and yesterday. He’s squinting in most of them because for some reason he’s allergies have flared up again (Fall alread?!)
