Here’s the poncho #2. I’ve actually added another row of shells (3 crochet rows) since this picture and finished off the ends. It is now complete and ready to be sent to its rightful owner. I figure Wendy can choose who gets which one. I used this pattern

This baby hoodie is my next project. I have some Red Heart Sport Weight Multicolor yarn in “Naptime” that I am using.

I crocheted this poncho using this Eileen Tepper pattern. There’s another poncho in this yarn since I have so much of it and it looks nice in children’s patterns. Sarita if you’re reading, this is one of the ponchos I was telling you about. Have a deadline of Dec 2nd to finish the second one.

We did not find out the baby’s gender this time around but Alexander and Aaron were very sure they wanted another brother and this they told everyone who wished for a girl for us…

Alexander wisdom #1 said to me in the last months of pregnancy - Mom, I am glad I am a boy. Because when girls grow up, they have babies. And I think that’s very painful!

Alexander wisdom #2 said to me as I changed the baby’s poopy diaper - Yuck mom! That’s gross! I would not want to change diapers if I was the dad.

Men never really grow up huh?! Because I think that’s the reaction of a lot of grown men!

Here’s a picture of Aaron on his birthday which was on the 9th of November. I did not post to wish him… too busy with the newborn but we did find time to celebrate the occasion as a family.

I guess it’s time to record Andrew’s birth story.

First some background… I had an induction scheduled for the 23rd of October, if I was not in labor by then. Since I was already walking around at 3 cm for so long the doctor thought things would move pretty fast. Sunday evening was very uncomfortable. I was having irregular contractions that made it difficult to walk but they went away after a hot bath. In the mrning when I woke up, I felt all damp and felt a slight gush. I though it was my waters and put on a pad but could not get the gush to repeat so I did not call the doctor.

Tueday morning, we went in as requested at 7 am. By the time, we completed registration and went to the L&D floor, it was 7:30 am. That is shift change time, so, the nurse led us to our room and told us that we would have to wait for the morning shift nurses to come to start the induction. By 7:45 am I met my nurse, changed into the hospital gown and was then prepped for the induction. The nurse mention that I was already contracting per the monitor but I was not feeling them. I also mentioned the Sunday incident and how I thought there was a chance that my waters might have broken. She said the doctor was in surgery and would check when she came in to check on me. Then they started the pitocin. I was still not feeling the contractions though. At around 8:30 am. Dr. Zaita came to check on me. She said I was at 3.5 cm and she could feel the water bag but I mentioned that in all my previous pregnancies, I had had a fore bag as well. She did the litmus check and it turned up positive for the amniotic fluid. She then broke my other sac and she saw there was meconium in it. Since it was over 24 hours since the first water bags broke and there was meconium in the water, they contacted the neonatologist to be present for the birth. And then, they started some antibiotics just in case.

Thing were going pretty smoothly. It was 10 am. I could feel the contractions now but they were definitely not unbearbly painful. The doctor checked me. I was at 6.5 cm. The nurse mentioned, how well I was doing and I said that usually my contraction only got unbearable just before transition. Around 10:20 am, they started getting pretty bad. I had to breathe through them and they were coming every three to four minutes and lasting around 90 secs. Some were coming one on top of the other. The nurse checked me as I was feeling a lot of pressure and I was at 8 cm. The doctor walked in and told me not too push because I was not ready. By 10:30, the contractions were bad! I was feeling the urge to push and groaning with my contractions. The doctor came in and checked me again. I was complete and ready to push. The neonatologist was called. Everything set up and I was ready to push. One push and the baby was out. I had to stop mid push so that the baby could be suctioned and then the baby was out. Time of birth was 10:44 am. The doctor announced that the baby was a boy. Angelo cut the cord after some encouragement from the doctor and then he was whisked away for the preliminary tests and checkup by the neonatologist. The placenta was not coming ou on its own, so the doctor had to go in and get it out. Can I just say OUCH! That was more painful than anything else! I guess because I was so sore after the delivery. As usual, the shakes set in after everything was over. They were so bad, I could not hold the baby for a half hour. After some intravenous painkiller, the shakes gradually went away and I was able to nurse the baby. The baby checked out fine and they took some more blood from him to do some tests. Within a couple of hours I was in my hospital room and things gradually got back to normal.

I am taking a break now to do this shawl. It goes pretty quickly with a bulky yarn. I am using Caron Glimmer in Red. I had around 4.5 skeins of the yarn. If I need more, I guess, I could order it later.
