A misfit in today’s world?!

Published by AmandaF at 11:16 am under Family, Everyday Living

I look at technology today and I often wonder at the pace at which new technology is introduced and the pace at which it grows. I wonder about those people who always want to be the first of their friends to be the owners of these new gadgets and gizmos… the latest television and audio technologies, the latest video camera or digital camera, the latest mp3 player and any such device.

The thing is what’s new today and costs thousand of dollars is “so yesterday” in so short a while. The prices drop significantly and the newer models are better and with few kinks and idiosyncracies… We still don’t own an LCD or Plasma TV…no MP3 payers/IPods here… no expensive digital camera or navigational system. I don’t carry a cellphone right now. We also do not own TIVO or XBox or Playstation.

These days, it’s “in” to be a geek, I guess. The more gizmos you own, the more of a geek you are and the more “in”. I guess that makes us boring, outdated and completely “uncool”. Of course, our days are numbered… I have three boys and I’m sure in the years’ to come we’ll probably give in on the Xbox/Playstations and our next television will probably be an LCD. But it will still probably be “later” rather than sooner.

i know what you mean sist… hay atleast you have a computer at home… we don’t even have that as yet… so we are really so not ‘in’… Here too stuff like the xbox, ipod, even cell phones with cameras and even tiny little computers are very much the rage. you can see all the youger folk having them, even college kids

Amanda, you should proud that you are so down to earth, and you have not yet succumbed to me-world. I also believe in the minimalist environment. However I don’t want to be left out totally. I come from the school of functional materialism.
Do what you do, do well. So use technology for that purpose only
    Take care!
