Sleepless in Virginia
The above photograph was taken by Alexander. Hence the angle.
Going on day two of sleepless nights and the bad thing is this is getting to be a regular thing… Every three weeks, Alexander comes home sniffling from school and we go in for another round of colds… first him, then Aaron and then Anthony… this lasts for a couple of weeks. We get a short break, or sometimes not, and then it starts all over again. In the middle of cleaning up sniffly (is this a word?!) snotty noses, we fight our own battles of avoiding and sometimes succumbing. Which is bad for me… as chief snot clean up person… I inevitably succumb and if it was just a cough or cold that would be fine. However, with me this means getting a sinus infection with bad headaches, eye aches and one side of my face feeling like its on fire or something… i’ve already had two of these sinus infections and I could do without them for quite a while! Combine all this with sleepless nights because someone is getting up asking for tissues, hacking in your year or just plain miserable because he can’t breathe but keeps getting off the pillow you use to elevate him and you have a lethal mom!
Of course they will make up for their interrupted sleep by napping or sleeping in but when Angelo’s alarm goes off at 5am… I am up and going back to sleep is difficult. So, now you have one cranky mom with a gazillion chores to do and refreshed but up-to-no-good times three kids running around a house because its too cold to run outside! Can anyone see the recipe for disaster upon disaster here?
Yesterday, I am making dinner and Angelo is “watching” the kids… Anthony sneaks into the dining room climbs up a chair and pulls the 6.5 foot Christmas tree on himself. Luckily the tree didn’t fall completely on him… he was still on the chair and the tree fell to the floor but once we got the tree back up, I saw several of my glass ball ornaments in shards! Oh well, atleast the Lenox ornaments are fine… You know how people say you learn from expereince? If you take a pup… he does something wrong… say run out on the street, gets hit by a cycle or something… will he run back out on the street again? No…. at least not unless he is like one of my kids! Sure enough five minutes later, Annthony was back in the dining room trying to climb the tree again!
Couldn’t I have had just one kid that did half the things I told him? or maybe even one quarter of the things?!

We are slowly getting over our colds. This one I can’t really blame coming home from school. Kids pick up every germ in school it seems like. I hope everyone feels better soo.
Poor YoU!! Fond memories do come back of when my older kids were that age! But, I tell you Amanda, looking back and comparing them today, I feel kids go through different phases, like I know! How we so wish the kids could remain young babies just so that we could avoid the difficult stages as they grow! Sadly us parents are at the receiving end! Nevertheless, we need to try and somehow stick to our plan, whatever we instill, and come out on top!
I do hope your household gets over the spell of the colds, and the kids feeling better.
