 Thirteen Things about Amanda’s Garden
- We grow plants from seeds/bulb/rhizome, rather than getting them from a nursery.
- We get free mulch from the local recycling yard
- We grow mostly perennials - daylilies, tulips, crocus, iris, roses, lilies
- Others like dahlias, calla lilies we dig up in winter and re-plant
- We do grow some annuals like marigold and zinnia….
- We get the seeds from the plants in fall to sow in late spring after the danger of frost is over.
- We fertilize the lawn in fall, spring and winter…this keeps weeds away and allows us to not water all the time.
- This years new plantings - Rose of Sharon (2), Canna (4), Asiatic Lily (4), Calla lily (2), Hydrangea (3)
- Existing plantings - azaleas, daylilies, irises, asters, roses
- Our garden was not an overnight thing as you can see… everything in stages… its taken a couple of years to get where it is now… and will need a few more years to get it to where I would be happy
- I want to add a water feature or two to the garden.
- It would be nice if one of the features could be a waterfall.
- Some areas of the garden still need edging.

It was a pretty good weekend. On Saturday, we did the usual grocery shopping in the morning and then in the evening, we went to the mall to buy me a new dress. Actually, first we went to Kohls. But, I must say, the choice was really bad there. Their clothes are good for teens and younger women but their selection for mothers of three (read that to mean “have baby belly and hips”) was pretty nil. So, we went to the mall. We walked into Sears and were about to leave empty handed when I came across a dress that had potential… but then Angelo saw some other dresses that were on sale for around 40$ and I tried a few. I picled one in blue and when to pay for it… it had been marked down to 14$! Angelo suggested I get another and I did… this was 11$ So, I got two dresses for 25$! How cool!
Sunday, we went to church and then out to lunch. After that we stopped by the mall again and then came home. Of course, after that I had to run like crazy to catch up on my weekend chores… Cleaned the dining room and living room while Angelo folded the laundry, took the trash out, cooked so Angelo would have something to take to work today and then packed his lunch.
We took a few pictures as well yesterday. Will put them up soon…
