Thursday Thirteen - the garden

Published by AmandaF at 8:41 am under Thursday Thirteen, For Fun, Everyday Living

Thirteen Things about Amanda’s Garden

  1. We grow plants from seeds/bulb/rhizome, rather than getting them from a nursery.
  2. We get free mulch from the local recycling yard
  3. We grow mostly perennials - daylilies, tulips, crocus, iris, roses, lilies
  4. Others like dahlias, calla lilies we dig up in winter and re-plant
  5. We do grow some annuals like marigold and zinnia….
  6. We get the seeds from the plants in fall to sow in late spring after the danger of frost is over.
  7. We fertilize the lawn in fall, spring and winter…this keeps weeds away and allows us to not water all the time.
  8. This years new plantings - Rose of Sharon (2), Canna (4), Asiatic Lily (4), Calla lily (2), Hydrangea (3)
  9. Existing plantings - azaleas, daylilies, irises, asters, roses
  10. Our garden was not an overnight thing as you can see… everything in stages… its taken a couple of years to get where it is now… and will need a few more years to get it to where I would be happy
  11. I want to add a water feature or two to the garden.
  12. It would be nice if one of the features could be a waterfall.
  13. Some areas of the garden still need edging.

    Sounds like so much fun.

I bet your garden is gorgeous! I just planted Canna, and calla lilly myself. They are just starting to come up. They make great subjects for photography! Great TT, thanks for visiting mine as well. Stacie

I wish my human were more inclined to gardening. She never does anything like that, but perhaps I can show her your terrific thirteen items and teach her a thing or two! :)

I must check into the free mulch - I surely need it and need to get out and weed some. I love gardening and it’s great to meet a fellow gardener. -Margie

I’m so not a gardener. Don’t even know what rhizome is! My mother would be ashamed;)

Your garden sounds beautiful. I wish I liked being outside enough to do one of my own…or that I could afford to pay someone to do it for me. ;)

I’d love to have a garden. and a garden with a waterfall? even better. my parents-in-law have a pond, with koi. beautiful. I’d love to do that myself. Of course, if you read my TT, you’d understand why I could never do that in my current house. LOL

Nice list, would love to see pics. :)

Wow, you must have a very green thumb! I can barely grow plants we buy healthy and happy at the nursery! I love to try, but I don’t always succeed, and I don’t have the patience to grow things from seed. I’d love to see pictures of some of your flowers and garden though. Hope you get that waterfall one day, water is so soothing to me. :)

Have a great day, my T13 is up also…

  22. dawnon 27 Jul 2006 at 8:51 pm

I grow my flowers from seeds but I find it alot easier to get my vegis from the nursery. I have a bulb garden, and love it. Have you thought about adding a little pond? Mine is a preformed pond but I just love it…you can see it Here

    My list is up
